Are you ready to go on one of my first flights as a Captain? You will not only be able to enjoy a scenic flight from Larnaca on Cyprus to Athens in Greece, but you will also be able to listen to the original communication with Air Traffic Control (ATC). The departure is from runway 22 in Larnaca. Just prior your take off a Boeing 747 departs from the runway. The flight lasts about 1:30 minutes and the route takes us over the Aegean Sea and many small Greek islands. During the flight, I will explain to you what pilots talk on the radio with ATC. You can listen to our clearances and requests of the air traffic controller. Landing is just prior to sunset in Athens and it is the first crosswind landing from the left seat. ATC communication 1. Departure clearance: Which route do we have to fly after take off 2. Taxi clearance: Which taxi route do we have to take to reach the holding point of the runway. 3. Take off clearance: Once we are ready for departure we advise the tower. 4. After take off: We get handed over to a new frequency/radar controller to get further climb clearances. 5. En-route: In cruise flight, the controller gives clearances to waypoints to shorten the route. 6. Approach clearance: The controller clears for an arrival route and for the approach to be flown at the destination 7. Landing clearance: Once the runway is clear of other traffic the controller issues the landing clearance with the wind information. 8. Taxi clearance: After landing and runway vacated the ground controller publishes the taxi route to the parking stand. What kind of flying video or explanation would you like to see in the future?
